French Louis XVI Style Candelabra / White-veined Red Marble & Gilt Bronze, 1885

$12,800.00

Antique Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted and white-veined red marble pair of candelabra, French, circa 1885. Each candelabrum is composed of a central ovoid marble vase fitted with finely cast gilt bronze mounts, including classical masque heads and draped foliate swags. From the upper collar issue four scrolling foliate arms, each terminating in candle cups with shaped drip pans. The central shaft and arms are executed in finely chased gilt bronze, demonstrating quality casting and attention to detail. The vases are carved from richly colored red marble with contrasting white veining and are raised on squared marble plinth bases with gilt bronze trim, providing stability and a strong architectural profile. The combination of gilt bronze and marble reflects the neoclassical influence characteristic of the Louis XVI style, which drew inspiration from classical Greek and Roman decorative vocabulary. Versatile in scale and design, this pair can be used in a variety of settings, including mantels, consoles, sideboards, or dining tables, and integrates well with both traditional and more contemporary interiors. Each candelabrum measures approximately 25 inches high, 12 inches wide, and 8 inches deep. Both are in good antique condition, with minor wear & chips consistent with age and use and small chips to marble base see photo.
