Italian Burlwood Display Cabinet, Neoclassical Design, Circa 1960-1970
An elegant Italian burl-wood and inlaid display cabinet or bookcase, dating to mid 20th century, circa 1960–1970, finely crafted in a traditional Neoclassical-inspired design. The cabinet features a beautifully figured warm reddish-brown burl-wood veneer, enhanced by contrasting wood inlays and decorative detailing throughout, showcasing the richness and natural character of the wood grain.
The upper section is fitted with a pair of glazed doors, each featuring an attractive geometric lattice arrangement of slender wooden mullions, creating an architectural pattern that adds visual interest while allowing the displayed contents to remain beautifully visible. The interior is finished with an upholstered fabric back in a soft neutral tone, providing an elegant contrasting backdrop for the presentation of porcelain, crystal, books, and other decorative objects. The interior is fitted with four fixed wooden shelves, offering practical display space. The shelves are not adjustable. The distance between the upper two shelves is approximately 10 inches, while the distance between the two lower shelves is approximately 12 inches.
The upper section is crowned with a decorative pierced gallery featuring delicate baluster-style detailing, a raised central architectural element, and ornamental finials at the corners. A projecting molded cornice separates the upper display section from the lower cabinet.
The lower section incorporates two cabinet doors, each beautifully decorated with large oval-shaped inlaid panels in contrasting wood tones, creating a symmetrical and refined composition. The doors open to provide additional concealed storage. The cabinet is supported by a molded base with gently shaped bracket-style feet, completing its graceful architectural silhouette. Combining richly figured burlwood, decorative marquetry-style inlay, geometric glazing, and an upholstered interior, this sophisticated Italian cabinet offers both decorative presence and practical functionality. An attractive addition to a traditional, transitional, or classically inspired interior. The cabinet stands about 85 inches high, 50 inches wide, and 16.5 inches deep. Great antique condition, minor wear appropriate to use & age.
