Large / Impressive 19th Century French Ormolu Mounted Sèvres Porcelain Urns

$48,900.00

A monumental and exceptionally decorative antique French ormolu mounted Sèvres porcelain centerpiece covered urn, made in France in the early to mid-19th century. This impressive and rare piece demonstrates superb French craftsmanship of the period, combining finely hand-painted porcelain with richly cast gilt bronze mounts of remarkable quality and scale. The porcelain body is of elegant bottle form, with a wide rounded body tapering to a narrower neck and base, set on a substantial round bronze foot. The exterior is beautifully hand-painted with detailed scenic decoration, featuring on one side a refined cityscape with castle, trees, and pond, rendered in soft harmonious hues, while the opposite side displays a still-life composition of flowers, also finely painted in delicate naturalistic colors. The decoration is set against a rich green jade ground, further enhanced with gilt accents that emphasize the refined Sèvres style. The urn is mounted with elaborate gilt bronze ormolu mounts, including two large sculptural side handles and a fitted cover surmounted by an ornate bronze finial with pinecone motif. The bronze work continues at the base with a heavy round foot, giving the piece stability and reinforcing its architectural presence. The combination of porcelain painting and finely cast ormolu mounts reflects the high level of artistry achieved in French decorative objects during the 19th century. Because of its monumental size and striking decoration, this urn is a true conversation starter and an outstanding centerpiece, suitable for display in a grand interior, entry hall, or formal room, and versatile enough to complement both classical and eclectic décor. Each urn stands approximately 53 inches high, 20 inches wide, and 12 inches deep. The piece remains in great antique condition, without chips, cracks, or repairs, with minor wear consistent with age and use.
