Large & Impressive Antique Dresden Porcelain Ormolu Mounted Hand-Painted Urn
A monumental and highly decorative antique German Dresden porcelain covered centerpiece urn, made in Germany in the early to mid-19th century and richly mounted with gilt bronze ormolu. This impressive vase exemplifies the elaborate craftsmanship associated with Dresden porcelain, combining finely detailed hand-painted scenes with sculptural bronze mounts of exceptional quality and scale. The urn is finished in a beautiful robin’s egg blue ground and exquisitely hand-painted with continuous figural scenes depicting people courting, celebrating, and socializing in period attire, rendered in soft and harmonious hues. The decoration wraps around the body of the urn, creating a lively narrative composition typical of Dresden work, and is enhanced with raised gilt gold ornamentation throughout. The form features a wide rounded body with a narrowed neck and defined waist, giving the piece elegant proportions. The vase is fitted with elaborate gilt bronze mounts, including large sculptural side handles decorated winged caryatid-form mounts that add strong architectural character. The removable cover is topped with a finely cast bronze pinecone finial, and the urn rests on a tapered octagonal footed base richly embellished with gilt bronze decoration, providing both stability and visual balance. Because of its monumental size, refined painting, and elaborate ormolu mounts, this urn is a true statement and conversation piece, suitable for display in a grand interior, entry hall, or formal room, and versatile enough to complement both classical and eclectic décor. The urn measures approximately 46.5 inches in height and about 18 inches in diameter, giving it an impressive and commanding presence. Overall in great antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, and free of chips, cracks, or repairs.
