Pair Antique French Gilt and Patinated Bronze Figural Ewers, Late 19th Century

$7,900.00

An exceptional pair of late 19th-century antique bronze ewers, beautifully executed with elaborate sculptural ornamentation and a striking combination of gilt and dark patinated bronze finishes. Dating circa 1870–1890, these impressive decorative vessels reflect the French Renaissance Revival and Neoclassical influences popular in European decorative arts during the second half of the 19th century.

Each ewer features a richly ornamented, bulbous body decorated with finely cast figural relief scenes depicting classical mythological figures and playful putti, surrounded by elaborate foliate and ornamental details. The upper sections feature elegantly sweeping, elongated spouts with raised decorative motifs, while the sculptural handles incorporate intricate detailing and a seated figural ornament at the top, creating an especially distinctive silhouette. The beautifully modeled necks, decorative collars, and elaborate pedestal bases further demonstrate the quality of the casting and the attention given to every architectural and sculptural element. The contrast between the warm golden bronze highlights and the darker, naturally aged patinated surfaces enhances the depth of the relief decoration and gives the pair wonderful visual character. Their sculptural presence, classical subject matter, and elaborate craftsmanship make them particularly desirable decorative objects. At approximately 21 inches high by 9 inches wide each & 7 inches deep these impressive ewers would make a wonderful statement displayed on a mantel, console, library table, or as part of a sophisticated European decorative arts collection. Equally beautiful individually or displayed as a pair. In good antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use
