An elegant pair of Asian decorative candlesticks dating to the late 19th century, circa 1870, featuring finely decorated porcelain bodies mounted with richly ornamented gilt bronze elements. Each candlestick displays an elongated, beautifully shaped porcelain column, decorated with hand-painted polychrome scenes depicting romantic pastoral compositions with figures in outdoor settings, surrounded by architectural and natural landscape details. The painted scenes include delicately rendered human figures, foliage, trees, and architectural elements, presented in a charming combination of pink, green, blue, and earthy tones. The porcelain is further embellished with decorative cobalt-blue bands and delicate ornamental accents, framing the central pictorial decoration.
The upper sections are fitted with distinctive gilt bronze elements featuring fluted architectural detailing and sculptural female figural ornaments positioned on either side. The elaborate gilt bronze bases feature raised foliate scrollwork and ornamental motifs, providing a substantial and decorative foundation. The combination of finely painted Asian porcelain and richly detailed gilt bronze mounts reflects the sophisticated decorative arts tradition of the late 19th century, when Asian-inspired decorative objects were highly appreciated in European interiors.
The interior painted scenes are particularly appealing, adding narrative character and artistic interest to these decorative objects. Their detailed figural compositions, delicate color palette, slender proportions, and elaborate bronze ornamentation make this pair especially attractive for display on a mantel, console, or within a formal interior.
Each measures 20 inches high by approximately 5.5 inches in diameter. Both pieces are in good condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use.
